Write a kanji, and the world answers.
Michikaki is a cozy handwriting game for iPad. The game starts with one day with Tan, a small tanuki, in a little Japanese street and in Tan's house. When Tan needs something, you write the kanji with Apple Pencil.
In development. Michikaki is in TestFlight testing on iPad and isn't on the App Store yet. It's free to download, with no account and no ads.
The world answers
See a need, walk there, write the kanji, and the world answers.
-
Walk
Tap to walk Tan along the street and through the door.
-
Follow the marker
When Tan needs something, a marker floats over the place that can help.
-
Write
Go there, and a writing card slides up. Write the kanji with Apple Pencil, and the world answers.
Nearly right does something else
Three kanji from Tan's first day, and what happens when you write them.
-
Write 日. Morning comes.
The room is dark. Write 日, the sun, and morning comes.
-
Write 一 for one rice ball.
Tan wants breakfast. Write 一 at the rice-ball stall, and one rice ball appears.
-
One stroke too many.
One stroke too many turns 一 into 二: two rice balls, and Tan is far too full.
Learn the strokes, one kanji at a time
The first time you meet a kanji, the card shows every stroke, with a dot where each one starts and an arrow for its direction. Later in the day the same kanji comes back on a blank card. Write it from memory.
- where a stroke starts
- the direction it goes
Practice guidance, not an exam. Stroke order follows the KanjiVG stroke data.
